She was born in Murray, KY, and spent most of her childhood in southwestern and northern Virginia. Growing up next door to a veterinarian and an entomologist, she was destined to go into a scientific field, and veterinary medicine became her dream. She completed her Bachelor of Science at Virginia Tech, graduating in 2004. She worked as a veterinary technician for a number of years after college, and also worked as a research assistant with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, under the guidance of the State Wildlife Veterinarian. She journeyed to the small island of St. Kitts to complete her DVM at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, and while there also had the opportunity to participate in leatherback sea turtle research and sea turtle rehabilitation. She graduated from Ross University in September 2012, after completing her clinical year at Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Carter joined the medical team at The Animal Hospital of North Charleston in September 2018, and has professional interest in soft-tissue surgery. If you haven’t had the opportunity to meet Dr. Carter yet, she is the doctor with blue and purple hair!

Her pet family is an adorable group of two Boston Terriers named Serena and Frances, a French Bulldog named Natasha, and a three-legged brown tabby cat named Chocolate Chip. Her overachieving pets know two tricks: eating and shedding.
When Dr. Carter is not seeing pets at The Animal Hospital of North Charleston, she enjoys crocheting, watching sci-fi and superhero movies, and going for a drive. Her go-to cuisine is Italian, and she doesn’t believe in going light on the cheese. Dr. Carter also volunteers her time with Samaritan’s Purse, an organization that packs shoebox gifts for those in need.
